The Perfect Way To Kick-Start Weight loss

Posted by on

More and more, we’re learning that weight loss isn’t just about calories and exercise. The human body is very complex and needs to be understood as a whole, taking in factors such as metabolism, stress levels, thyroid health, digestive health and so much more. The number on the scales shouldn’t always be considered when wanting to lose weight, it should be more of a reflection of what’s going on inside your body. For some people reaching and maintaining a healthy and happy weight means a lot of work needs to be done to heal the systems in your body from the inside out.

By tending to your digestive system, hormones and blood sugar levels you are able to eliminate obstacles which stand between you and effortless weight management. Here are a few ways to kick-start your weight loss journey:

  • Make a healthy smoothie every morning
The ideal day for weight loss always starts with breakfast. There is no better way to kick start the day than with a nutrient rich protein smoothie. This is what I personally recommend to my clients. Protein smoothies are fast, easy, delicious and effective. By adding in one Super Me Powder sachet you tick numerous boxes: protein and cinnamon for blood sugar stabilization, probiotics for gut health, turmeric for anti-inflammatory benefits, ashwagandha to support your nervous system lowering the stress response, spirulina to alkalize your body, coconut for a dose of good fats to reduce inflammation and keep you satiated, cacao which boosts the body's natural production of serotonin (our feel good hormone) and is a natural stimulant, plus SO much more! Add 1 sachet of Super Me Powder or 5-6 heaped tablespoons from a 1.1kg bag with a large handful of berries, almond milk or coconut water, 1 tbsp nut butter and if you feel like an extra boost 1 handful of leafy greens and you’ve got yourself the perfect breakfast to go!
  • Make food your medicine
There are so many theories about weight loss, but the rules are simple. Eat clean and organic, eat everything in moderation, eat lots of vegetables, limit sugar, eat sufficient protein, and drink lots of water daily. As mentioned above, start your day with a protein smoothie - it’s the easiest way to jam-pack so many nutrients into one meal. You can also try spicing up your food with herbs and spices that can help to aid weight loss (turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper), and eat liver-cleansing foods such as turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, broccoli sprouts, leafy green.
  • Move that bod!
It’s important to find an exercise routine that is enjoyable. Aim to move your body for 30 minutes at least 4-5 days a week. Incorporate 2-3 weight and resistance trainings each week, by exercising more muscle we trigger fat burning hormones and help speed up our metabolism. Pilates, lifting weights, TRX training, body weight exercises and yoga are some great options. Walking and running are fantastic as well. Try a few different exercises until you find the right ones for you and mix them up weekly to challenge your body and mind.
  • De-stress!
When you are stressed your body releases cortisol, a fat storing hormone. Put aside 10-15 minutes each day for yourself to unwind and de-stress! This is important for helping to nourish your adrenal glands and signalling the nervous system to kick into the parasympathetic ‘rest and digest’ mode. This is incredibly important for healthy weight management and hormonal balance. I like to put my legs up against the wall for 15 minutes every night, it also helps to get a good night’s sleep. Other options include reading, a walk around the block, or simply just sitting and focusing on your breathing, allowing your belly to rise and fall (breathing in for 4 counts, hold, then out for 4 counts). Try to do this 2-3 times throughout the day to relax, unwind and be present.
